How refunds work for order cancellation?

Refunds are an essential part of managing your event, especially if you need to cancel a paid registration. This guide explains how refunds work when processing cancellations for both online and offline orders.

Refunds in case of online orders

When a paid ticket order is canceled, you will need to process a refund for the attendee. The process differs depending on the payment method used to complete the order.

For orders processed via Eventzilla payments, Square and Stripe

If the order was processed through Eventzilla payments , Square or Stripe (online payment methods), the refund, including the Eventzilla registration fee, will be processed automatically through your Eventzilla account. After you cancel the order in Eventzilla, the payment, including the registration fee, will be refunded directly to the attendee. The entire transaction (payment + Eventzilla fee) will be refunded to the original payment method used by the attendee.

For orders processed via PayPal, Authorize.net, or Other Online Payment Methods

Manual refund process: If the order was processed through other online payment gateways, such as PayPal, Authorize.net etc, you will need to log in to the respective payment processor’s account to initiate the refund, Once it is refunded you can mark the order to cancelled status on the view orders page.

When the refund is processed, the amount refunded will include the Eventzilla registration fee in addition to the ticket cost ensuring that you refund the full amount the attendee paid, which includes both the ticket price and the registration fee.

Cancellation Fees

Cancellation Fees (if applicable): If your event has a cancellation policy that includes a fee for refunds, the refund amount will be adjusted accordingly. The refund will be deducted by any specified cancellation fee, and the remaining balance will be refunded to the attendee.

Refunds in case of offline orders

Offline orders, such as those paid by bank transfer or pay by invoice, do not go through Eventzilla’s integrated online payment processors. In these cases, the responsibility for issuing a refund lies with the organizer.

The organizer must authorize and process the refund directly through their bank or payment system. You will need to ensure that the full amount is refunded to the attendee via the same payment method they used to pay for the ticket. Once it the refund is processed, organizer can mark the order to cancelled status on the organizer account.
